Why transitioning to only renewable energy will be difficult for the U.S.

After millions of protesters marched around the globe to demand action on climate change, we more closely examine what policies they are proposing. Miles O’Brien joins William Brangham to discuss current sources of U.S. energy and what it would take to transition to all renewables, plus the outlook for nuclear power as the infamous Three Mile Island plant closes.

Why renewables can’t save the planet | Michael Shellenberger

Environmentalists have long promoted renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind farms to save the climate. But what about when those technologies destroy the environment? In this provocative talk, Time Magazine “Hero of the Environment” and energy expert, Michael Shellenberger explains why solar and wind farms require so much land for mining and energy production, and an alternative path to saving both the climate and the natural environment. Michael Shellenberger is a Time Magazine Hero of the Environment and President of Environmental Progress, a research and policy organization. A lifelong environmentalist, Michael changed his mind about nuclear energy and has helped save enough nuclear reactors to prevent an increase in carbon emissions equivalent to adding more than 10 million cars to the road. He lives in Berkeley, California.

Greta Thunberg to World Leaders: ‘How Dare You!’

Wake up! Climate change is real.

The way we treat the planet is due to our lack of connection to nature.

For that, we are paying a huge price.
Nature will adapt with or without us.

I grieve for our lost connection with nature.
I grieve for the losses that have already occurred, continue to occur and the will continue to occur.

May we all wake up soon and change the way we treat nature.

To the future and current generations of humans on planet Earth:

To the future generations of humans on planet Earth:

“Please forgive us.”

To the current generation of humans on planet Earth:

The action we take or don’t take TODAY will have a huge impact the quality of life for everyone on the planet that includes our children, their children and their children and so on.

In terms of science and climate change, putting our country’s near-term needs (aka greed) ahead of our planet’s near term and long term needs is INSANE.

Science is NOT a liberal issue.
Climate change is NOT a liberal issue.
Gravity is NOT a liberal issue.
Hurricanes are NOT a liberal issue.
Coastal cities buried by rising seas is NOT a liberal issue.
Corrupt politicians who receive huge “donations” from Exxon et al is NOT a liberal issue.

“…global temperatures “will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities.”

Likely effects, according to NASA, will include more heat waves and droughts, more and more powerful hurricanes, dramatic sea level rise and an Arctic Ocean that is “essentially ice free in the summer before mid-century,” the implications of which are profound.”
